A New Year is here, and many people are thinking about ways to improve their health. Some plan to become involved in an exercise program, others want to eat a more wholesome diet, while others are wondering what they can do to take better care of their skin. If you would like to obtain a healthier, more youthful appearance, here are five easy steps to get you started.

Minimize time in the sun. The sun is undoubtedly the best source of vitamin D. Even so, certain people spend too much time basking in this glorious star, and their skin ends up paying the price. Why? Unprotected sun exposure can lead to negative changes like wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and skin cancer. A suggestion? Never go beyond 10 to 15 minutes in the sun without first applying a SPF 30 (or higher) sun block, and always use a product that protects against both UVA and UVB rays.

Hydrate. Our bodies are made up of mostly water. Therefore, it is extremely important to continually replenish this vital liquid. How does water affect the skin? When we take in inadequate quantities, skin tends to appear lifeless and dry. Coffee, alcohol, and soda may all be liquids, but they can be dehydrating or lead to other types of problems. An optimal beverage to maintain hydrated skin? Purified water.

Exercise. How can exercise help the skin? Well, stress shows on our faces. Exercise is a great stress-releaser, so our skin looks better when we workout. At the same time, exercise increases the metabolism, and an increased metabolism leads to enhanced circulation and better skin clarity. Actually, exercise (when done properly) is incredible in so many ways!

Healthy eating. A healthy diet is a smart diet. When we primarily take in whole grains, fruits, fresh vegetables, and lean proteins, our skin benefits because we get the essential nutrients we need. Conversely, when we eat poor-quality snacks, sugary desserts, fatty meals, and processed meats, our skin (among other things) becomes compromised. Nonetheless, if for one reason or another you are not consuming a wholesome, well-balanced diet, high-quality vitamin supplements are the next best thing.

Moisturize. Moisturizers help stave off wrinkles and other imperfections. They also form a barrier against the elements and work to lock in moisture. It is best to look for moisturizing products that contain natural ingredients; they tend to be suitable for different skin types.

In addition to the five tips above, we have assorted skin care regimens to help you look your best. These amazing products exfoliate, cleanse, moisturize, reduce fine lines, fade age spots, and combat the signs of aging. If you would like to learn more about our skin care lines or any of our medical spa procedures, call Dr. Talbot at 877-247-1294 to schedule a consultation.

Happy New Year!

Few wonders can compare to the joys of motherhood. This remarkable gift is both splendid and humbling. Pregnancy alters a woman’s body, nonetheless, and the changes are not always welcome. Fat around a woman’s stomach, breasts, buttocks, and thighs can accumulate, and the deposits are not always easy to take off. At the same time, skin in these areas stretch to accommodate for the added weight, and stretch marks sometimes appear. Certain females, particularly younger women and ones who were extremely fit before they became pregnant, are able to return to their before baby bodies with creams, diet and exercise, but many others cannot.

The reason it’s so difficult? Healthy eating and workouts, although extremely beneficial, often cannot effectively combat sagging skin and hormonal-based fat deposits.

What can be done? Mommy Makeovers have opened up a whole new world for women who have children.

What does a Mommy Makeover entail? Depending on the bothersome spots, it could involve the following:

Breast lift. Some women say their breasts look deflated following pregnancy. A breast lift can counteract sagginess and help the chest look more youthful. If breast tissue has diminished, implants may also be used to regain the desired fullness. If breasts are too bulky, the removal of tissue, in addition to the lift, affords a perkier, more pleasing appearance.

Liposuction. Fat deposits can remain after childbirth. The accumulations tend to settle around a woman’s stomach, thighs, and hips. Liposuction effectively removes excess fat cells so the body has a more attractive contour. Recent advancements have made this revolutionary treatment safer, faster, and more convenient.

Tummy tuck. The stomach normally bears the brunt of pregnancy changes. A tummy tuck can impressively diminish the undesired effects. How? An incision is made just below the bikini line and excess fat and skin are removed. It is sometimes preferred over liposuction, especially when skin in the stomach region is exceptionally slack. If only a small amount of fat and skin require removal, then a mini tummy tuck may be all that is needed.

Mommy Makeovers may also include a buttock lift or other enhancement warranted by the individual. The results are amazing, and women often say they again feel confident about their bodies.

Naturally, a plastic surgeon’s skill level determines the degree of client satisfaction. So, give Dr. Talbot a call. He’s a specialist in the MS area and can help you overcome your post-pregnancy trouble spots!

More and more people are undergoing cosmetic procedures, and sometimes the changes are stunning. A sagging face can be lifted, eye bags can vanish, skin tone can even out, wrinkles can disappear, lines can fill in, cheeks can look fuller, lips can be plumped, furrows can diminish, saddlebags can depart, noses can be refined, deformities can be corrected, and the list goes on.

Nonetheless, it is important to keep in mind that not-so-pleasant consequences might also occur. One need only pick up the latest tabloid to see high-profile people with unattractive cosmetic results.

Why does this happen? There are different reasons. Sometimes the doctor was too aggressive in his or her approach, and sometimes the practitioner wasn’t really qualified to perform the respective treatment.

Since there are assorted factors to consider when undergoing cosmetic enhancements, let’s look at a few DOs and DON’Ts.

Do

Do check physician credentials. When it comes to safety and results, qualifications should be the primary factor. Unfortunately, the term cosmetic doctor is used loosely in the industry.

Do understand the procedure you are receiving (i.e., ask questions). So, if you are getting a filler for smile lines, make sure you know the type of material being used. And, be certain the product is FDA-approved.

Do seek out a board certified plastic surgeon for cosmetic corrections or improvements. These expert doctors have extensive training in procedures that involve the face and body. Risks are minimized, and results tend to be superior.

Don’t

Don’t participate in party settings where procedures, like filler injections, are offered. Treatment should always be administered in a medical environment with qualified practitioners.

Don’t be swayed to believe you need something done to your face or body because everyone else is doing it. Instead, think carefully about whether or not you will benefit from the change. For example, some people with thin lips look great when they have them filled, while others with naturally plumper lips tend to look unnatural.

Don’t choose a facility simply because it offers the cheapest price. Even something as straightforward as Botox can have unpleasant results in poorly trained hands. You certainly would not go to a podiatrist to have crowns put on your teeth. Therefore, why would you go to anyone but a highly skilled plastic surgeon for cosmetic procedures?

Cosmetic enhancements have opened up a whole new world for many women and men. Some individuals feel they are more competitive in the workplace, others are happier with the reflection they see, while others are merely pleased they no longer have to hear how tired they look.

Still, the competency of the doctor has much to do with the final result. For that reason, be sure to do your homework! Find out why The Plastic Surgery Center in Mississippi is a highly qualified facility for your cosmetic procedure by visiting www.drtalbot.com or by calling 877-247-1294 today!

Fortunately, Otoplasty can improve or correct misshapen, protruding, and deformed ears. Here are some things to know about this procedure.

By age six or seven, ears have usually reached their full size. However, ear cartilage is still not as firm as it will be in older years. Therefore, this age category is an optimal time to perform Otoplasty. Why? The child is generally old enough to participate in the process, and results are impressive!

Otoplasty takes approximately one to two hours. This surgery is frequently performed as an outpatient procedure, but occasionally a child may spend the night.

The type of ear deformity (e.g., large ears, malformed ears) routinely determines the scope of the surgery. For example, sometimes cartilage is removed from the ears, other times the cartilage is reformed, and other times the ears are secured closer to the head with stitches.

The dissolvable sutures used in Otoplasty are placed in inconspicuous areas behind the ears; therefore, scars are not noticeable.

Following the surgery, the head will be wrapped to keep the ears secure; this wrapping is normally worn for about one week. A headband may also be necessary when the wrapping comes off to further assist in the healing process.

Adults with big or malformed ears are also appropriate for this type of surgery. Other cosmetic surgeries may be performed on the same day, as well.

Otoplasty can also improve torn or stretched out earlobes caused by injury or long-term earring use. In fact, earlobes look considerably better! Following the recovery process, ears can again be pierced.

The results of Otoplasty tend to be dramatic. In addition, the benefits are long-lasting and rarely need repeating.

Only a qualified, board certified plastic surgeon should perform this type of surgery. Expert precision is necessary when working on the ears and their delicate components.

The cost of Otoplasty varies, determined by the nature of the procedure. The Plastic Surgery Center provides Financing Options for your Otoplasty procedure if your health insurance will not cover your procedure.

Exaggerated or misshaped ears can make people the subject of many jokes. Is it right? No! Does it happen? Yes. Thankfully, Otoplasty can change all that.

Subsequently, if you (or your child) feel awkward about prominent ears, perhaps it is time to discuss your Ear Surgery options with Dr. Talbot.

Adiposis endematosa, also known as cellulite, manifests itself as a dimpled, orange peel, or cottage cheese look. It can begin as early as the teenage years. Even so, it can also occur following pregnancy, weight gain, menopause, or just about any time.
Cellulite is typically selective regarding where it will settle. For example, it usually appears on the buttocks, thighs (front and back), stomach, and upper arms. It’s important to mention that not all sufferers get cellulite in the same measure. Some individuals have an extremely small amount that is only detectable when the skin is pinched, and others have noticeable dimpling, even when they are stationary.

What causes cellulite? Let’s look at some factors outside and within a person’s control.

Outside Factors:

Gender. Males can develop the appearance of cellulite, particularly on the abdomen; nonetheless, females are considerably more susceptible. In fact, some studies have suggested that women represent about 90% of all cellulite cases.

Family History. It’s believed that genetics may play a cellulite role in certain people. Because of this, individuals who have a family history could be at greater risk.

Hormones. Fluctuating hormone levels are thought to be responsible for this type of fat formation in some females. This may explain why the condition tends to develop around puberty, pregnancy, and menopause.

Factors Within:

Diet. A diet high in saturated fat, salty foods, processed meats, or simple carbohydrates (like sugary desserts and sodas) is believed to contribute to cellulite in some people. Healthy choices like fresh fruits, leafy vegetables, lean proteins, and fiber may counteract some of the negative effects. Concurrently, drinking sensible amounts of purified water throughout the day will help flush toxins from the body.

Exercise. Inactivity is unhealthy for many reasons, and skin tone is on the list. Fortunately, a combination of aerobic exercise and resistance training may reduce cellulite. NOTE: Do not begin an exercise program without the consent of your doctor.

Smoking/alcohol. Smoking seems to have a vast array of negative consequences, and cellulite contribution is likely one of them. Consequently, if you smoke, make an effort to quit. In addition, watch your alcohol intake. Too much alcohol can elevate fat levels in the blood.

Well, what can be done to minimize cellulite besides the above suggestions?

Regular massage in the affected areas stimulates circulation, so this is a great therapy to try: dry brushing and certain creams may heighten the benefits. At the same time, a qualified plastic surgeon can help you understand the reasons for your cellulite and work to identify a treatment plan and/or procedure right for you.

Battling cellulite? Then schedule an appointment with Dr. Talbot at the Plastic Surgery Center of Hattiesburg to find out how Body Contouring and Liposuction can help minimize your cellulite!

Facial lines (also referred to as wrinkles) are an unwelcome part of aging. In fact, they can make people seem older or more tired than they actually feel. Genetics sometimes plays a role in the number of wrinkles a person will get. Environmental factors, such as repeated, long-term exposure to the sun, can also claim responsibility for line formation.

Are lines preventable? Not completely. However, they can be better managed when defensive measures begin early. For example, washing facial skin each morning and evening with a mild, pH balanced cleanser, wearing sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB rays, not smoking, and regularly moisturizing work to stave off lines or make existing ones appear less noticeable.

And what about the wrinkles that do not go away despite our best efforts? A substance natural to the skin known as hyaluronic acid can help.

How? When hyaluronic acid is injected into a line, it temporarily plumps the area to restore a more youthful contour. Mouth lines diminish, eye creases fade, and brow furrows become less visible. You still look like you, only younger!

Let’s look at two of the more common hyaluronic acid fillers.

Juvederm and Restylane are extremely popular, non animal-based hyaluronic acid injectables; they are included in the category known as dermal fillers. Both products are FDA approved, safe, and effective.

The injections are minimally invasive with little to no downtime.

Results are typically immediate, although it may take a few days for the full effect to become evident.

Benefits often last between three months to one year (and occasionally beyond).

Side effects, such as swelling and/or bruising, may occur at the injection site; this should dissipate in a few days.

It’s important to stay away from aspirin and aspirin-like products, as well as certain vitamin and herbal supplements, a week before and after a Juvederm or Restylane injection. This minimizes the potential for unwanted side effects.

In addition to reducing the appearance of wrinkles, Juvederm and Restylane can add volume to the lips, chin, and cheeks to produce a more sculpted look.

Only a trained doctor should administer Juvederm and Restylane injections. In the wrong hands, results could be compromised.

Cost is determined by the amount of product needed. For example, deeper wrinkles may require more than one syringe, where fainter lines may only need one.

Dermal fillers have changed the way people view their lines, and Juvederm and Restylane stand out in customer satisfaction. Some individuals may prefer Collagen as a dermal filler option.

Unwanted hair is a challenge for some women. The chin, sideburns, cheeks, and above/below the lips are common facial areas for this problem to occur. Shaving provides a temporary fix but requires constant attention.

Females experience stubborn hair on the lower part of the body, as well. One particularly embarrassing place is around the bikini line. Waxing temporarily removes the troublesome growth, but itchiness and irritation are all-too-frequent consequences.

Hair issues are not gender bias; back, neck, or/and ear hair is an especially difficult battle for some men to address. Interestingly, male chest hair has also become an unappealing trait in certain demographics (yes, a smooth chest is now desirable!).

What can be done about unwanted hair? At one time, electrolysis was the long-term solution. Results were impressive, but many people found the process time-consuming and painful. Today, many individuals seek out a better way, and its name is laser hair removal.

Let’s look a little closer at this procedure.

Laser hair removal transmits a beam of light through the skin to disrupt hair follicle development.

Several treatments may be necessary to satisfactorily inhibit new growth from occurring.

Almost any area on the body can be addressed with this procedure.

The technique does not require anesthesia. Even so, only an experienced medical professional should perform the treatments.

The duration of the procedure is determined by the size of the area being addressed. For example, the chin could take several minutes while the legs will take much longer.

Pinkness, swelling, and minor stinging may occur, but these effects usually subside within hours. Most people are able to resume their regular activities almost immediately. Nevertheless, it’s important to stay out of the sun for at least several days.

Laser hair removal is a fabulous way to rid yourself of hair you do not want. Some people realize better results than others; still, at minimum, most individuals are afforded lighter, finer growth that does not scream out, “Hey, look at me!”

So, if you’re searching for a place to banish your unwanted hair, look no further. The Plastic Surgery Center of Hattiesburg has not one but two types of lasers to wipe out unappealing hair.

Why two? Not everyone’s hair is the same. Therefore, at our facility, treatments are customized to you!

Do you have unwanted hair? Schedule a series of hair removal treatments with Dr. Talbot Today!

Fortunately, with the ongoing advances in skin rejuvenation, there’s an innovative way to realize younger-looking skin without the need to stay cooped up for long periods.

What is it? MicroLaserPeel. This treatment is performed with only a topical numbing agent, so there’s no need for needles. A bonus? Many skin colors and types are appropriate for the procedure. And, MicroLaserPeel has the ability to address the full epidermis (outer skin layer), so it’s more effective than a microdermabrasion session.

What can it do? Let’s look at some of the benefits.

Each treatment is customized to the needs of the client. Hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, and even acne scars soften in only one visit.

Skin texture and elasticity becomes discernibly enhanced.

A younger, more youthful appearance is apparent.

Treatments are safe and minimally uncomfortable.

Fewer side effects occur with this kind of laser. Swelling and/or bruising may take place but should subside within a few days.

Healing typically takes between two to four days. Other lasers, such as the CO2, take much longer (although the results are more profound).

People who have a MicroLaserPeel treatment at the end of the workweek can usually return to their jobs by the following Monday or Tuesday.

In addition to the face, this procedure can be used on other body areas such as the chest, neck, and hands.

What will you look like after the treatment? It will appear as if you spent too much time in the hot Bermuda sun: significant redness will be present. In the next day or two, you should experience minor peeling. By day three or four, any residual redness should be cover-able with makeup.

How long will the benefits last? Each situation is different; it depends on the degree of skin damage. Some people realize impressive results with only one treatment, and others could use more than one. Nonetheless, a single procedure can last between six to twelve months (and sometimes beyond).

The MicroLaserPeel is the wave of the resurfacing future. Yes, the carbon dioxide laser is effective in addressing significant skin damage, but substantial downtime and pain accompany the gains. The MicroLaserPeel produces impressive results without long hibernation periods. So, give our office a call to get started with the best micro laser peel specialist in Mississippi and realize a younger-looking you!

Each nose job operation is customized to the individual; therefore, factors such as anesthesia type, recuperation time, and cost will vary. Closed rhinoplasty surgery involves very small incisions made on the inside of the nose. Open rhinoplasty surgery includes tiny inside incisions but also incorporates an outside cut. Thankfully, external scars often fade to almost invisible levels.

Let’s look at some common nose imperfections people want to correct.

Bumps. Some individuals have sizable bumps and removal of the protrusion can dramatically bring about refinement. Undoubtedly, a full facial appearance becomes impressively enhanced, but the profile sometimes realizes even greater visual rewards.

Excessive width. Certain people have considerably wide noses and wish to narrow the measurement. A skilled plastic surgeon can slim the width and allow the face to seem more balanced.

Excessive narrowness. Significantly wide noses sometimes detract from an otherwise eye-catching face, but extremely narrow noses can do the same. In this circumstance, a trained doctor increases the width of the nose to attain better harmony.

Largeness or droopiness. A nose that hangs down or is exceedingly large tends to steal the show, but typically not in a good way. Lifting and/or minimizing the length and/or width can make a huge difference in how an individual looks and feels.

Crooked or twisted. Correcting a nose that lacks symmetry takes skill and expertise. Depending on the degree of shifting, it may even be difficult for a highly-trained surgeon to attain precise proportions. Nevertheless, qualified hands can craft vast improvements in the deformity.

Minor imperfections. Some people need only slight changes to achieve satisfaction. For example, the removal of a small bump or slight nostril tweaking can produce gratifying results for certain individuals. An added perk? Few people will even know any work was done.

Naturally, there are other reasons why people seek out rhinoplasty besides the ones listed above. For example, some individuals suffer from nasal fractures, and others are displeased with the outcome of a prior nose job and want a revision. When rhinoplasty is performed for cosmetic purposes, insurance companies usually do not pay. However, if breathing is affected because of a structural abnormality (e.g., deviated septum), then insurance may cover the cost. Other procedures, such as a chin implant, may also be performed in conjunction with rhinoplasty; this tends to beautify the face in people with receding chins.

Rhinoplasty can make a tremendous difference in appearance. Nonetheless, the preparation and skill level of the physician often determines if the changes are positive. Dr. Talbot utilizes computer imaging before surgery; this allows individuals to try out different noses to decide which one looks best. At the same time, he is one of Mississippi’s top rhinoplasty surgeons. People who come to him know they’re in expert hands.

A reshaped nose? Who knows?

If you are a person experiencing considerable sagging and are not bothered by the changes, good for you! If you are a person experiencing significant sagging and want to do something about it, good for you, as well! Each individual has his or her own preferences concerning the matter.

A brow/forehead lift effectively raises the upper facial region to minimize or eliminate an angry and/or tired appearance. Sagging brows, forehead lines, eyebrow furrows, and upper eyelid folds are areas that can be addressed by this procedure. There are different approaches to correct the forehead and brow area; surgical particulars are often customized to meet the needs of the individual. Still, let’s look at two of the more common ways to lift a falling forehead.

Hairline Procedure. In this method, an incision is made inconspicuously at the periphery of the hairline. Skin and tissue are repositioned to decrease wrinkles, minimize or eliminate furrows, raise sagging brows, remove excess skin, and allow the forehead to look substantially smoother. This approach not only raises the eyebrow area but can also lower the hairline in people with excessively high foreheads.

Endoscopic Procedure. This approach involves a few small incisions made behind the hairline. It’s favored by some people because it is minimally invasive and scarring is slight. Still, this technique cannot correct excessively slack skin, so it’s not recommended for individuals with extreme sagging. Instead, it tends to be appropriate for people who have mild to moderate droopiness.

Unlike quick fixes that temporarily correct forehead wrinkles and furrows but need to be repeated, lifts are impressively long lasting. This is a surgical procedure, nonetheless, and like any other surgery, there’s some degree of risk involved (albeit the risk is minimal).

The preliminary recovery from a forehead lift usually takes seven to ten days, although the area will continue to heal beyond that time. Many people are able to return to work in a week or so. Discoloration, if still present, can usually be covered with makeup.

A forehead/brow lift takes years off the look of an aging face! People who undergo the procedure say they feel refreshed, energized, and more youthful. This surgery can be combined with other facial enhancers, like eyelid rejuvenation, for a fabulously younger appearance.

So, if a sagging forehead is weighing you down, elevate yourself by calling Mississippi’s Best Brow and Forehead Surgeon Dr. Talbot today. His expertise raises all kinds of standards.
