In fact is estimated that 40% to 60% of all males have gynecomastia to some degree, whether they are young or old, physically fit or out of shape. Glandular tissue and/or fat accumulates in one or both breasts and while in most cases there may be no cause, men who suffer from gynecomastia often feel self-conscious, embarrassed or depressed about their appearance.
During surgery, the excess fat and tissue is removed through an incision placed inconspicuously under the arm or at the edge of the areola. It is typically done on an out-patient basis and most men return to work in a day or two following surgery. Gynecomastia can produce a dramatic physical change, with a chest that is flatter and firmer with improved contours. For many men, however, the positive psychological change is even greater.
If you feel your appearance and self-assurance will improve with male breast reduction surgery, contact The Plastic Surgery Center to schedule a confidential consultation with Dr. Paul Talbot to discuss your wishes and expectations.
