More Patient TestimonialsGrowing up can be difficult enough, but a child whose ears are particularly prominent can be the victim of taunting and bullying by other children. In severe cases, the anxiety and humiliation can last a lifetime. Surely that’s not what you want for your child so perhaps it's time to discuss otoplasty with Dr. Talbot at The Plastic Surgery Center of Hattiesburg.
During outpatient otoplasty surgery, which is performed under general anesthesia, incisions are inconspicuously made behind the child’s ears. Using permanent sutures, Dr. Talbot manipulates the cartilage and adjusts the ears to a more pleasing position closer to the child’s head.
Dr. Talbot recommends that the ideal age to perform otoplasty is between six and seven years old when the child is better able to participate in the recovery process. After surgery, the child’s head will be wrapped for one week. Once removed, a headband will be worn to guard against trauma and to aid in the healing process.
