Body Contouring Procedures
The art and science of body contouring comprises several surgical procedures. These may be done to enhance the appearance of a distinct area of the body, such as abdomen, thighs or arms. They are often done to offset the results on the body of sudden weight loss either through surgery, illness or radical diet changes. Or they repair the effects of childbirth on abdominal muscles. Most of all, body contouring improves self-esteem.
Dr. Paul Talbot, Medical Director of the Plastic Surgery Center, is highly trained and has considerable success in these body contouring surgeries. One or more may be right for you.
Tummy Tuck – Abdominoplasty
During this procedure, excess skin and fat are removed from the mid to lower abdomen and the abdominal muscles are tightened. Women’s abdominal muscles may stretch and separate during and after pregnancy and a tummy tuck can restore their pre-childbirth figure.
This surgical procedure is typically reserved for men and women who have experienced massive weight loss resulting in large folds and rolls of excess skin. This over-stretched sagging skin drapes over the abdomen, buttocks, back, thighs and hips and does not respond to exercise or other treatments.
Arm Lift – Brachioplasty
The typical candidate for an arm lift or arm reduction procedure has experienced considerable weight loss resulting in sagging skin from the armpit to the elbow, most evident when the arms are held out straight. Excess skin and fat is removed during the surgery, creating a more rounded appearance.
Thigh and Buttock Lift
Unlike many people who may benefit from liposuction alone to remove excess fat in these areas, some patients’ excess fat and skin must be removed surgically. Inner thigh lifts remove fat and skin along the inside of the leg. Outer thigh lifts are typically performed as part of a complete body lift. During a buttock lift, loose skin and fat are surgically removed to improve the contour and shape of the area.
Depending on your wishes and physical condition, one or more procedures may be done at the same time; for example, a tummy tuck and an inner thigh lift. In all instances, Dr. Talbot will explain the risks and benefits of each procedure and you will be fully informed on all aspects of the surgery and recovery period. Most of these procedures are performed under general anesthesia and may require a hospital stay of one or two days, depending on extent of the surgery.
